đž Data Management & Backup
Understanding how ShareHive stores and manages your data:
How Your Data is Stored:
âšī¸ Local Storage
ShareHive uses IndexedDB, a browser-based database system. All your data stays on your device and never leaves your browser. This means:
- â Complete privacy - no server storage
- â Works offline without internet
- â Fast access to your data
- â ī¸ Data is tied to your browser and device
- â ī¸ Clearing browser data will delete everything
Backing Up Your Data:
- Open Settings: Click on "âī¸ Settings" in the sidebar
- Find Export Option: Look for the "Export Data" or "Backup" section
- Download Backup: Click "Export" to download a JSON file with all your data
- Save Safely: Store the backup file in a safe location (cloud storage, external drive, etc.)
- Regular Backups: Repeat this process weekly or after important updates
Restoring Your Data:
- Open Settings: Navigate to Settings page
- Find Import Option: Look for "Import Data" or "Restore" section
- Select File: Click "Import" and choose your backup JSON file
- Confirm Import: Review the import details and confirm
- Refresh Page: Reload the page to see your restored data
â ī¸ Important Warnings
- Importing data may overwrite existing data - backup first!
- Using incognito/private mode prevents data persistence
- Browser storage has limits (typically 50-100MB)
- Uninstalling your browser will delete all data
- Switching devices requires manual export/import
đ§ Troubleshooting & Common Issues
Solutions to frequently encountered problems:
Possible Causes:
- Browser cache or data was cleared
- You're using incognito/private browsing mode
- Browser storage quota was exceeded
- Browser was uninstalled/reinstalled
- You switched to a different browser or device
Solution:
Unfortunately, if data is cleared from IndexedDB, it cannot be recovered unless you have a backup. This is why regular exports are crucial!
â ī¸ Prevention
Always maintain backup files by exporting your data weekly. Store backups in multiple locations (cloud storage, email, external drive).
Common Causes:
- Too much data stored (thousands of items)
- Large files uploaded to File Manager
- Too many browser tabs or extensions running
- Outdated browser version
- Low device memory/storage
Solutions:
- Archive or delete old, unused data
- Remove large uploaded files
- Close unnecessary browser tabs
- Update to the latest browser version
- Clear browser cache (but don't clear site data!)
- Try using a different modern browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge)
ShareHive currently doesn't support automatic cloud synchronization. However, you can manually sync using this method:
Manual Sync Process:
- On Device 1: Export your data from Settings â Download backup file
- Transfer: Send the backup file to Device 2 (email, cloud storage, USB, etc.)
- On Device 2: Import the backup file via Settings â Import Data
- Regular Updates: Repeat this process whenever you need to sync
âšī¸ Future Feature
Cloud sync and multi-device support are planned for future updates. This would allow automatic synchronization across all your devices!
Yes! ShareHive works on mobile browsers, though the experience is optimized for desktop use.
Mobile Usage Tips:
- Use landscape mode for better visibility
- Mobile browsers also use IndexedDB for storage
- Export backups regularly as mobile storage can be cleared more easily
- Some features may have limited functionality on small screens
- Internet browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox) works better than in-app browsers
đĄ Mobile Tip
Add ShareHive to your home screen for quick access! Use your browser's "Add to Home Screen" feature for an app-like experience.
Troubleshooting Steps:
- Refresh the page (F5 or Ctrl+R)
- Clear browser cache (not site data!)
- Try using a different browser
- Check if JavaScript is enabled
- Disable browser extensions temporarily
- Check browser console for errors (F12)
âšī¸ Still Not Working?
If the problem persists, please visit our Report a Bug page to submit a detailed report. Include browser version, device info, and steps to reproduce the issue.
This error appears when your browser's storage limit is reached.
Solutions:
- Delete old data: Remove items you no longer need
- Remove large files: Delete uploaded files from File Manager
- Archive data: Export old data and clear it from ShareHive
- Use cloud storage: Store large files externally, keep only links in ShareHive
â ī¸ Storage Limits
Most browsers limit IndexedDB storage to 50-100MB per origin. Large files, images, or extensive data can quickly fill this quota.
